It was built in the 15th century by the Ottoman sultan Bayezid II for the local Albanian population. بني المسجد في القرن الخامس عشر من قبل السلطان العثماني بايزيد الثاني للسكان الألبان المحليين.

Located on Sarıgüzel Street in İskenderpaşa neighborhood of Fatih, it was endowed in 1505–06 by İskender Pasha, who lived at the time of Mehmed the Conqueror (1432–1481) and served as a vizier of Bayezid II (reigned 1481–1512). يقع المسجد في شارع سارغورزيل في حي إسكندرباسا في الفاتح، كان بناؤه في 1505-1506 بهبة من اسكندر باشا، الذي عاش في زمن محمد الفاتح (1432-1481) وشغل منصب وزير خلال حكم بايزيد الثاني (1481-1512).
In January 1507 Kemal Reis was appointed by Bayezid II with the task of hunting the Knights of St. John and set sail from Gallipoli with a large fleet of 15 galleys and 25 fustas that were heavily armed with cannons. في يناير 1507 تم تكليف كمال ريس من قبل السلطان بايزيد الثّاني بمهمّةِ التعرض لفرسانِ القدّيس يوحنا حيث أبحرَ مِنْ غاليبولى بأسطول كبير مكون مِنْ 15 قادسا و25 مركبا مُسلَّحة جيدا بالمدافعِ.
In August 1507 he sailed to Alexandria with a cargo of 8,000 sets of oars and 50 cannons that were donated to the Mamluk sultan by Bayezid II for helping him in his fight against the Portuguese fleet which often ventured into the Red Sea and damaged Mameluke interests. في أغسطس 1507 أبحرَ كمال إلى الأسكندرية بشحنة مِنْ 8,000 مجذافا و50 مدفعا تبرع بها السلطان بايزيد الثاني للسلطان المملوكي لمُسَاعَدَته في معركتِه ضدّ الأسطولِ البرتغاليِ الذي كان يتجرأ بالدخول للبحر الأحمرِ ويقوم بتدمير مصالحَ المماليك.
In March 1497 Sultan Bayezid II appointed him with the task of protecting the ships which carried valuable goods belonging to the religious foundations of Mecca and Medina from the frequent raids of the Knights of St. John who were based in the island of Rhodes at that time (in 1522 the Ottomans captured Rhodes and allowed the Knights of St. John to peacefully leave the island, who first relocated their base to Sicily and later to Malta in 1530.) في مارس 1497 كلفه السلطان بايزيد الثاني بمهمّةِ حِماية السُفنِ التي تحمل سلعَا ثمينة تَعُودُ إلى مؤسساتِ دينية بـ مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة مِنْ الهجماتِ المتكرّرةِ لـ فرسان القديس يوحنا الذين كَانوا يتخذون من جزيرة رودس مقرا لهم(في عام 1522 استولى العُثمانيون على جزيرة رودس وسمح لفرسانِ القدّيس يوحنا بتَرْك الجزيرةِ بسلام، والذين نقلوا قاعدتَهم أولاً إلى صقلية ولاحقاً إلى مالطا في 1530).
